Firefighter Cozad is the President/Spokesperson for FIREHIRE® Inc. Curt began his experience in emergency services in 1976. Curt joined the United States Air Force as a Fire Protection Specialist and was trained in advanced first aid. Upon discharge, Curt became an Auxiliary Firefighter for the City of Stockton, while testing for multiple fire departments.

In 1981, Mr. Cozad was hired by Manteca-Lathrop Fire Protection District as a Firefighter/Engineer. Curt served 5-1/2 years with the District before leaving. Than Curt was hired by the Defense Distribution West Fire Department in Tracy, California, while attending Paramedic school. Curt became a California licensed EMT-Paramedic in May of 1989. While residing in Tracy, CA, Curt became a reserve firefighter for Tracy Rural Fire District. Curt was also employed with Mobile Life Support (now AMR) ambulance service as an EMT-Paramedic.

In March of 1992, Mr. Cozad began employment with the American River Fire Protection District in Sacramento, California. In December of 2000, the American River Fire Protection District merged with Sacramento County Fire Protection District to form the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Protection District. Curt is still an active Firefighter/Paramedic/Acting Captain with Sac Metro Fire.

The topic that I will be presenting is getting hired in the fire service. This is the first part of a multi-part series.

Whether it’s your first fire service job or you’re looking to promote, I can never emphasize what I believe in. “You never get a second chance to make a first impression”.

Trust me when I say that whether you are dropping off your application, participating in a ride-along, or interning for your Paramedic licensure, you are being “judged”.
